Barnard 72 is a well-known dark nebula in Ophiuchus. It is a concentration of obscuring dust and gas that blocks the light of the stars behind it. To the right of the Snake and slightly below it is B68, an extremely dense dark nebula, and then strung out in an arc below B68 are B69, B71, B70 and B74. (B74 is the largish dark nebula with the bright star at its base.)
